Steve was born and raised in Southern California. He has been covering high school sports at the Orange County Register newspaper and now the Southern California News Group for over 40 years. He played basketball at Saddleback High School, while writing for the school newspaper, and continued his writing career while graduating from Cal State Fullerton. He writes a weekly column on the county’s high school sports scene, regularly covers games in all sports, and writes timely male and female features.

Steve also does concert reviews for the Register, when his schedule permits. His first byline appeared in the Register in 1979. He was in the inaugural induction class of the Santa Ana Unified School District Sports Hall of Fame. He is also in the Southern California Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame, and was the first journalist to receive the Contribution to Education award from the Orange County Department of Education. Steve was honored as ‘Champion for Character’ by the CIF-Southern Section. He is one of the most respected and best in sports journalism.
