Stephen Thompson, 2026
Stephen was a standout two-time Los Angeles City Player of the Year at Crenshaw HS in the middle 1980s with his number 32 jersey being retired in 2009. Thompson led Crenshaw to back-to-back LA City 4-A crowns and then his team won a pair of California state championships while averaging 28.0 points per game as a junior and 34.0 points per game as a senior. He was the California State Player of the Year. The 6-4 Thompson became a key player at Syracuse University for Jim Boeheim where he made the school’s All-Century Team and was selected as the Big East’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He was a two-time All-American, played in three ‘Sweet 16s’ and lost in the 1987 NCAA finals. He finished with the second-best shooting percentage in NCAA post-season history to our SCBBHOFer Bill Walton. He won gold at the 1989 World University Games. He had a brief NBA career, played in the CBA and overseas before going into college coaching. He was first the assistant coach, then the head coach at Cal State Los Angeles, then an assistant coach at Oregon State where both of his sons played. He is currently back at Cal State Los Angeles coaching for SCBBHOFer Michael Cooper.
