Melissa Hearlihy, 2027
One of the greatest girls’ basketball coaches of all-time, Melissa retired following the 2024 season after leading Harvard-Westlake to the California State Division II Title. She finished coaching with 839 wins in a 39-year career as the second winningest state girls’ basketball coach of all-time behind SCBBHOFer Kevin Kiernan. She started her high school career in 1985 at Alemany HS around working as a graduate assistant coach for UCLA legend Billie Moore. At Alemany, she won three CIF titles, made six CIF Regional Finals and a CIF State final appearance in 1998. She moved to Harvard-Westlake in 2000 where she won four more section titles, including her best season in 2010 when she went 33-1, winning Division IV section and the California State title. Overall, she won 20 league titles. She has been selected as the CIF Coach of the Year six times. She won the 2023 Pat Summitt Trophy as National Coach of the Year. She was the 2024 ‘Los Angeles Times’ Coach of the Year for the fifth time. She was an outstanding power forward for the University of San Francisco from 1981-83, while also playing softball. She earned a master’s degree at CSUN.
