Larry Hollyfield, 2027

Larry is perhaps the most successful ‘winning’ player in local basketball history. He was the CIF Player of the Year in 1969 for Compton HS as he led his team to unbeaten CIF title seasons in 1968 and 1969, winning a record 62 straight games playing for SCBBHOFer Bill Armstrong. He only lost 3 games his entire HS career. After a year at Compton College where he again went unbeaten (33-0) and won the California JC State Title averaging over 20 points per game, he transferred to UCLA. Playing for John Wooden, he was part of three straight NCAA title from 1971-73. The 6-5 left-handed Hollyfield was a key starter on the 1973 title team, scoring 8 points with 9 assists in the SCBBHOFer Bill Walton’s 44 point against Memphis. Hollyfield finished his college career with 75 straight victories (leading to a NCAA record 88 straight wins). He may be the only player to play for five unbeaten teams from high school through college, losing just one game over six title wins (214-4, 98% winning percentage for his career). He was drafted by the Portland Trailblazers, but never played NBA basketball, playing instead overseas. He has been battling the effects of a major stroke since 2009.
