Kim was one of the first great players in Los Angeles City Girl’s Basketball as she led Los Angeles HS to the LA City title and was the 1976 City Player of the Year. She went to Long Beach State and was a college standout. She averaged in double figures each season from 1977-1981 as a four-year starter (97-30 record), four-year All-Conference selection, and led the 49ers to two conference titles. She was a Wade Trophy Finalist for National Player of the Year as a senior. Her 1,775 career points rank fourth all-time at the Beach, and her 461 career assists rank seventh all-time.

She was a 1977 AAU All-American for Sharman’s Shooters. Maddox was invited to the 1980 and 1984 USA Olympic Team trials, after playing for the USA team in 1978 on the Orient tour. She was inducted into the Long Beach State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1989. She had a 25-year career as a Long Beach Police Detective, while serving as the co-president of Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride, earning acclaim for her community work in both areas. She passed away on September 13, 2016 from cancer after retiring to support her wife and children.
