
Kevin Kiernan, 2024
Kevin is California’s all-time winningest girls’ coach with 900 career victories before retiring in 2024 to become Mater Dei’s Athletic Director. He won his 12th CIF title and back-to-back crowns, when MD won the 2021 championship. He has won 32 league titles (17 straight Trinity crowns), 12 CIF titles, six state titles and two national championships. In his first 17 years at Mater Dei, Kiernan’s teams were 472-62. In 2011, Coach Kiernan was selected as the ‘Orange County Register’ and ‘Los Angeles Times’ Coach of the Year as well as the CIF Division 1AA Coach of the Year, and the National High School Coaches Association National Coach of the Year.
In 2011 Mater Dei became the first girls’ basketball team in five years to finish No. 1 in the ‘USA Today’ Super 25 in consecutive seasons, and the newspaper also named Kiernan its National Coach of the Year in 2010. While at Troy High School Kiernan had 24 of his players go on to play college basketball, and has sent 40+ from Mater Dei. Kiernan was also 110-79 as the head coach at Cypress College. He was selected in 2023 as one of the ‘100 Most Impactful People in Women’s College Basketball.’
