He was an outstanding HS athlete at Ventura through 1962, excelled in football, tennis, and track & field to go with three years of varsity basketball as a 5-8 starting All-League point guard. He was part of the Beverly Hills All-Tournament team. He received a basketball scholarship to Westmont where he played for four years, then was the starting point guard for the Army club championship team while serving our country in 1969-70. He is most noted as the girls’ basketball coach at Buena HS where his teams advanced to the CIF semi-finals or finals in 12 of his first 16 seasons. His Buena teams posted a record of 761-112 (87%) and won the California state championship in 1983-84, six CIF-Southern Section titles and 27 Channel League crowns. He once won 57 straight league games and had an amazing 377-35 overall league record, while winning 91% of his games. He also spent time as the school’s Athletic Director. He was inducted into the Ventura Sports Hall of Fame in 1991. He retired as California’s winningest girls’ basketball coach.
