Jason attended powerhouse Artesia High School in Lakewood, California, where he was a McDonald’s All-American, All-CIF player, CIF champion, and California State Player of the Year. In his senior year he averaged 23.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. He had a top college career at UCLA, where he finished as the third all-time leading scorer with 2,095 points, was the first Bruin to earn First Team All-Pac-10 honors all four years, including being Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, and was the only UCLA player to lead the school in scoring four straight years.

He won a gold medal for the USA playing in the 2001 FIBA Under 21 World Championships.  He was a second-round draft choice of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2003 NBA Draft. He was the first player in NBA history to ever lead the league in 3-point shooting two straight years, and also won the NBA All-Star 3-point shooting contest twice. The 6-7 Kapono had a 10-year professional career that included winning the 2006 NBA title with Miami. He finished his career in 2013 winning the Greek Championship.
