From Muir HS in Pasadena, Jacque was a two-time Parade All-American and McDonald’s All-American and MVP of the 1992 all-star game where he set a HS record that still stands today of 13 assists. As a HS senior, Vaughn was awarded the Dial Award as the nation’s top male high school scholar-athlete, becoming the first basketball player ever to win that award, while averaging 21 points and 19 assists per game.

He went to Kansas where he was a two-time All-American point guard, two-time Academic All-American, including the tops in 1997, Big-8 Player of the Year, and the all-time Jayhawk assistant leader, going far each year in the NCAA Tournament. He was a 1997 NBA first round draft pick by the Utah Jazz. In a 12-year professional career the 6-1 point-guard won a NBA title with the San Antonio Spurs in 2007. He has been a long-time NBA assistant and then head coach with the Brooklyn Nets into 2024. Today he runs the Colorado Premier Basketball Club. His Kansas jersey #11 was retired in 2003.
