Harvey went to Gardena HS, then Cal State Long Beach for undergrad and finished his master’s at Cal State Los Angeles before becoming one of the greatest LA City coaches of all-time. He is just the 5th coach in California history to have over 900 career wins (950 and is still coaching today). He was head coach at LA City powerhouse Fairfax for 35 years, winning four LA City titles (1985, 1987, 2007, 2015) and two California State Championships (2004, 2007). He left Fairfax to go to Rolling Hills Prep, where he has won four CIF championships (2017, ’18, ’19, ’21) and one state title (2017).
In his long career he has produced over 150 college scholarship players, including four that have made the NBA. He was head coach of the West team at the 2006 McDonald’s All-American Game, was the John Wooden National Coach of the Year in 2004, the California State Coach of the Year in 2007, and NHSCA National Coach of the Year in 2010. He also helps coach the AAU Youth Under 17 team. He has been a Nike consultant for over 25 years, and is in the SCIBCA Coaches Hall of Fame.
