The Locke HS two-time Los Angeles City Player of the Year and HS School All-American led the school to consecutive City titles as a dominating 6-3 center. Doretha had numerous triple doubles (points, rebounds, blocked shots) in her career, plus a 53-, 51-and 48-point scoring games and averaged almost 30 points per game. She was a rare two-time California Ms. Basketball as a junior in 1983 and as a senior in 1984 for her domination (following our SCBBHOFer Cheryl Miller). She was a recruiting coup for USC, but ended up at Odessa College where she led her JC team to the State title and the finals with a 75-1 record averaging 20 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and 4 blocked shots per game. She was Conference Player of the Year and JC All-American. She decided to transfer to the University of Texas from 1986 to 1988, averaging 13 points and 7 rebounds per game, becoming Conference Post-Season Tournament MVP and playing well in the NCAA Tournament until injuries kept her from a WNBA career. She was inducted into the LA City Athletics HOF in 2023.
