Austin was multi-time All-CIF player at Crossroads HS in Santa Monica where he averaged over 20 points per game, and led the team to the 1993 CIF title after growing from 6 feet to 6-10 during his four years there after starting on the JV team. Croshere went on scholarship to Providence where the All-American led his team to the 1997 NCAA Elite 8 his senior year, and put himself on the NBA map. He won a gold medal representing the United States in Japan at the 1995 World University Games.

The 12th pick in the first round of the 1997 NBA Draft, he helped lead Indiana to the NBA Finals in 2000, where the Pacers lost in six games to the Lakers with Austin as the second leading Pacer scorer to SCBBHOFer Reggie Miller. He enjoyed a 12-year NBA career, spending most of his time with the Indiana alongside stints with the Dallas, Golden State, Milwaukee, and San Antonio. After retiring he went into professional and college basketball sports broadcasting. He was inducted into the Crossroad Athletics HOF in 2014.
