Dwayne L. Polee Sr., 2023
Dwayne was one of the best players in LA City history after starting high school at Verbum Dei, and transferring after his freshman year. He was the 1981 City Player of the Year when he scored 43 points in the title game for Manual Arts in a win over Crenshaw front of 14,123, the largest crowd in LA City history (his son Dwayne, Jr. also won City Player of the Year in 2010 playing for Westchester, the 2nd father-son combo in history).
The major recruit first attended UNLV, before transferring to Pepperdine in 1982. There he averaged 15 points per game his junior and senior years. He was taken in the 3rd round of the 1986 NBA draft by the LA Clippers. He played one game before going to Mexico to play professionally for two years. He then was assistant coach at Los Angeles Southwest. The 6-5 Polee helped the JC to the 2001 California State championship. He was hired at USC from 2007-2010 as Director of Basketball Operations, and then worked in the same role for years at the University of San Francisco. He was inducted into the LA City Sports HOF in 2021.
